Bloom: The Beginning of Always

Featuring the music of David Gillingham, Bjork, and Aaron Copland
Winds by Carol Chambers
Percussion by Manuel J. Maldonado and Kris Hartman

As the Inaugural show for Claudia Taylor Johnson High School, the show exemplifies fresh starts and new beginnings through its use of old melodies creatively interwoven with modern elements of electronics and rhythm.

In Part 1, a pre-show sets up the drill for Gillingham's brilliant song, Council Oak.

In Part 2, Bjork's "Selmasongs" from New World gives the band a nice backbeat to march double-time to, while still providing freshness of the melodies and counter lines.

In Part 3, Aaron Copland's Symphony No. 3 gives a sense of space and openness vindictive of starting something fresh and new is on the horizon. A recapitulation of the opener finalizes the work.
